Automate the stages where the labour is heaviest

Milling and extrusion are continuous processes where manual working is not really possible; they need power. Packing and transfer are intermittent, and that is where hand labour is cheapest at low volume. Get that split right and you get most of the output of a full line for a fraction of the investment.

Design for the upgrade from the start

A semi automatic line becomes expensive if upgrading means replacing machines. Specify the melting tank, mixer, cutter and stamper with enough adjustment and capacity for your intended final output, so later you are adding conveyors and a wrapper rather than starting over.

People are a variable cost, so plan the real number

Count the operators properly, including how many are needed at peak rather than on average. A semi automatic line that needs six people is not cheap if a full line would need three and your labour market is expensive. We will show both configurations so you can compare with your own labour rates.

The upgrade sequence that works in practice

Add a wrapper first if you are selling retail, because it changes how the product looks and opens up retail accounts. Add conveyors second, when transfer labour becomes the constraint. Add automatic stamping third. Adding in that order keeps each step paying for itself.

Compare the total cost of ownership over three years: equipment, plus the labour hours each configuration needs at your local wage rates, plus the output you forgo. Can a semi automatic line be upgraded later?

Yes, if it is specified correctly at the start. The machines that are hard to upgrade are those built without capacity and adjustment headroom — so tell us your intended final output before you order.
